1. Agreement
By creating an account or a ward in Jethro, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. The service is provided by Jethro (“we”). If you do not agree, do not use the service.
2. Who may use it
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- You must hold, or be acting at the direction of someone who holds, a leadership responsibility in the congregation whose information you access.
- You may only use information in Jethro for the ward purposes it was entered for.
3. Data steward responsibilities
The person who creates a ward becomes its owner and data steward. Bishopric members share that responsibility. As a steward you agree to:
- Only import information you are authorized to hold and use in your calling.
- Invite people with the least role they need, and remove access promptly when someone is released or moves.
- Keep confidential matters in the confidential fields provided, and never in public-facing programs or announcements.
- Follow the privacy and data-handling expectations of your own organization and the law where you live. Where those are stricter than this tool, they govern.
- Respond to members who ask to see, correct, or remove their information.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Upload information about people who are not part of the congregation you serve.
- Export, scrape, sell, or share directory information outside its ward purpose.
- Use the service to harass, discriminate, or contact minors directly.
- Attempt to access another ward’s data or bypass role restrictions.
- Upload copyrighted material such as hymn lyrics, sheet music, or handbook text.
We may suspend or remove access that violates these rules, and will tell the ward owner when we do.
5. Not an official tool
Jethro is an independent product. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Handbook references in the app are summaries in our own words with links to the official source; the official text always governs. Standard sustaining and release wording is provided for convenience and should be checked against current guidance.
6. Your content
Everything a ward enters stays the ward’s. You grant us only the license needed to store, display, back up, and email it on the ward’s behalf. On request from a ward owner we will export the ward’s data in a standard format and delete it from our systems.
7. How We Use Data, Including for AI
Jethro may create de-identified and aggregated statistics from how Jethro is used, combined across many users, so that they cannot reasonably be linked to any person, family, household or organization (“De-identified Data”). We may use De-identified Data to operate, measure, improve and develop Jethro, including its analytics features, and Jethro owns it. We will not try to re-identify De-identified Data, and anyone we share it with must agree not to try either.
We never use personal information to train AI models. This includes member and household records, callings, contact details and any information that reveals religious affiliation and anything else that identifies a person. De-identified Data from Jethrois limited to usage statistics and is never offered to third parties. We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
8. The service
Jethro is currently offered at no charge. We may introduce paid plans in the future and will give at least 30 days’ notice before anything a ward already uses becomes paid. We may change or discontinue features. If we ever discontinue the service, we will give at least 60 days’ notice and a way to export your data.
9. Disclaimers
The service is provided “as is” and “as available.” We do not guarantee it will be uninterrupted or error-free. Keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose, such as a printed program for Sunday morning.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Jethro is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from use of the service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or one hundred US dollars if you paid nothing.
11. Ending this agreement
You can stop using the service and delete your account at any time. A ward owner can ask us to delete the ward. We may end access for violation of these terms as described in section 4.
12. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Utah, United States. Before either of us starts a legal proceeding, we agree to try to resolve the matter by writing to each other first.
13. Changes
We may update these terms. Material changes will be emailed to account holders before they take effect, and the date at the top of this page will change.
